The Department of Skills Development and Entrepreneurship (MSDE), in partnership with Quest Alliance, National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC), and several other curriculum bodies within the MSDE ecosystem, has launched a revamped employability skills curriculum. This initiative is supported by the Future Right Skills Network, a partnership of Quest Alliance, Accenture, Cisco and JP Morgan.
More than 2.5 million students from more than 15,600 government and private industrial training institutes (ITIs) will benefit from the program, which includes a revamped and expanded 120-hour curriculum in Hindi and English. Some modules include an introduction to employability skills, digital skills, citizenship, diversity and inclusion, career development and goal setting, job preparation and entrepreneurship. Variants of the 30, 60 and 90 hour curriculum are also being launched for both long-term and short-term courses.

The curriculum will help build a self-learning mindset, get career ready in a post-pandemic world, develop awareness around new careers and be equipped with 21st century skills. It will also help teachers improve their skills for new-age classrooms and become familiar with blended learning models. While physical books on the revamped curriculum are now being released, digital copies for blended learning will be available soon.
Trainers are provided with a facilitator guide so that they can teach the revamped curriculum using a blended learning module. A digital version of the student workbook is available on the Bharat Skills portal and the Employability Skills portal. In addition, MSDE and the National Instructional Media Institute (NIMI) plan to publish these books for use by state departments.
The curriculum was launched as part of the “Shikshak Parv” celebrations at Dr. Ambedkar International Center in the presence of Annapurna Devi, Minister of Education, Dr Subhas Sarkar, Minister of Education, Dr Rajkumar Ranjan Singh and Minister of State for Education.
“To ensure that young people can keep up with the rapidly changing world, they must continue to retrain and retrain. Employability Skills are key to helping young people transition into the job market with confidence, which is the single most important aspect employers are looking for. Therefore, it should be embedded in any skills program,” said Rajesh Aggarwal, Secretary of the Ministry of Skills Development and Entrepreneurship.

Aakash Sethi, CEO of Quest Alliance, said: “The 12 modules in the curriculum have been prepared keeping in mind the post-Covid job market and its volatility. The modules help students build a self-learning mindset and find a place for themselves in new types of jobs, such as those in the green and gig economy.”
