Mumbai University has decided to start undergraduate admissions without waiting for the announcement of the results of the Central Board for Secondary Education (CBSE) and Council for the Indian School Certificate Examinations (CISCE) class 12. Monday, the University has of Mumbai issued a circular asking all colleges to follow the admission procedure. Filling of the form will end on June 25th and the first merit list will be announced on June 29th.
The decision came after the Maharashtra State Board for Secondary and Higher Secondary Education declared that Class 12 (HSC) results had been released last week. The circular from the university states: “All universities of applied sciences must follow the admission procedure strictly. This has created a buzz and fear in the minds of CBSE, ISC students who are still waiting for the 12th grade result. They are afraid of losing their chance of admission as the university may already occupy all the places before their results are known. An official source on condition of anonymity gave a justification on the matter, telling leading news daily that delaying the admission process will reduce academic time for students.
University authorities are also concerned and believe that once the CBSE and ISC results are out, chaos will ensue in the institutions. Colleges are allowed to increase seat intake for these board students, but the process to do so has not been announced by the university.
