For candidates selected at the National Apprenticeship Mela, the stipend amount will be transferred directly to the students’ bank account, Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan has said. Furthermore, a digital dashboard will be set up to streamline the learning process. The fair was launched today at more than 700 locations across the country.
“The Government of India will transfer its contribution of Rs 1,500 directly into the bank account of students. The company will also transfer the stipend amount directly,” Pradhan told PTI news agency.
Furthermore, “academic credit will be awarded to learners that can be used for future pathways,” he added. In addition, the internship fair will be held every month in the future. The government wants to ensure that more than 10 lakh trainees interact with companies and thus take advantage of the opportunity to earn while they learn, the minister said.
“Going forward, the PM National Apprenticeship Mela will be a monthly affair. A digital dashboard will be set up to further streamline the learning process and connect our young people to relevant opportunities in the 21st century. Our aim will be to ensure that more than 10 lakh interns work as apprentices in companies and take this opportunity to earn while learning and find their gateway to the industry,” he added.
More than 4,000 organizations from more than 30 industries, including energy, retail, telecommunications, IT/ITeS, electronics, automotive and others, participated in the event. Aspiring candidates have been given a choice of more than 500 professions, including welder, electrician, housekeeper, beautician, mechanic and others. They were offered an internship offer on site with monthly allowances according to government standards.
The main aim of this program was to encourage the hiring of about one lakh apprentices and help employers identify and develop their potential through training and practical skills, the government said.
Individuals who have completed Grades 5 to 12, Certificate of Skills Training, ITI Diploma, or Graduate Diploma are eligible to participate in the Internship Scholarship. The candidates will receive certifications, recognized by the National Council for Vocational Education and Training (NCVET), increasing the chances of their employability after training, an official statement said.
