In the event of a tie between the marks of two candidates in the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) Main and National Eligibility Cum Entrance Test (NEET), the National Testing Agency (NTA) uses its tiebreaker policy to award ranks. The policy aims to fairly rank and shortlist the candidates for the final admission process.
According to the policy, the candidates’ grades are taken into account when calculating the tie-breaker and their age. In 2021, the age criteria of the candidates were removed. For example, in 2020, both Soyeb Aftab from Odisha and Akanksha Singh from Uttar Pradesh achieved 720 out of 720. However, Soyeb got AIR 1 because he was older than Akanksha. This policy has been re-added. Here are the new rules of the tie-breaker policy:

JEE Main 2022 Tie Breaker Policy
In the event that two or more candidates obtain the same grades in JEE Main, candidates with a higher score in Mathematics will be given preference over others with equal overall grades. The JEE Main tie-breaking policy states that if the tie continues even after the first step, candidates will be awarded ranks based on their scores in chemistry followed by the physics section. View the tiebreak policy here.
For BE and BTech, the tie-breaker is in descending order:
— NTA score in math, followed by,
— NTA score in physics,
— NTA score in chemistry,
— Candidate with a smaller proportion of a number of incorrect and correct answers attempts in all subjects of the exam,
— Candidate with a smaller proportion of a number of attempts at wrong answers and correct answers in mathematics,
— Candidate with a smaller proportion of a number of attempts at wrong answers and correct answers in physics,
— Candidate with a smaller proportion of a number of attempts at wrong answers and correct answers in chemistry,
— Candidate older in age,
— Request number in ascending order
For BArch of paper 2A the rules are:
— NTA score in math, followed by,
— NTA score in aptitude test,
— NTA score in tick test,
— Candidate with a smaller proportion of a number of incorrect answers and correct answers attempts in all subjects,
— Candidate with a smaller proportion of a number of attempts at wrong answers and correct answers in Mathematics (Part I),
— Candidate with a smaller proportion of a number of incorrect answers and correct answers attempts in the Aptitude Test (Part II),
— Older of age,
— Request number in ascending order
If there is a tie even after these criteria, the candidates will be ranked in the same order. The first session of the technical entrance will take place from June 21 to 29 and the second session from July 21 to 30.

NEET 2022 Tie Breaker Policy
For the tie-breaking process in NEET, candidates who achieve a higher percentile score in Biology will be given preference over other candidates with the same overall marks. If the score remains tied, candidates with more chemistry points will be ranked higher. If the tie is still not broken, candidates who have attempted a smaller number of questions in all three sections together will be given preference over others. Here are the rules:
— Candidate achieving higher grades/percentile score on the Biology exam followed by,
— Candidate achieving higher grades/percentile score in Chemistry,
— Candidate achieving higher grades/percentile score in Physics,
— Candidate with a lower proportion of attempts of incorrect answers and correct answers in all subjects of the exam,
— Candidate with a smaller proportion of a number of attempts at wrong answers and correct answers in biology,
— Candidate with a smaller proportion of a number of attempts at wrong answers and correct answers in chemistry,
— Candidate with a smaller proportion of a number of attempts at wrong answers and correct answers in physics,
— Candidate older in age,
— Request number in ascending order
Candidates must score a minimum of 50 percentile points to clear NEET. For candidates belonging to SC, ST categories, the qualification criteria will be relaxed by 10 percentile points. Candidates with physical disabilities must score at least 45 percentile points to qualify for NEET. Medical admission is scheduled for July 17 this year.
