What is NIRF ranking?
The National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) was approved by the MHRD and launched by the Minister of Human Resource Development on September 29, 2015. This framework outlines a methodology to rank institutions across the country.
The higher education institutions are divided into 13 categories: general, universities, medicine, engineering, management, law, architecture, colleges, research institutions, pharmacy, dentistry, agriculture and related sectors, and innovation.
The 2024 edition of the NIRF Ranking saw the addition of three new categories: Open Universities, Skill Universities and State-funded government universities. The NIRF rankings will include Sustainability Rankings from next year, Anil Sahasrabudhe said.
NIRF Ranking 2024: Weighting assigned to each parameter
Teaching, learning and resources, as well as research and professional practice, each receive 30 percent of the weighting. Graduation results count for 20 percent, and education, inclusion and perception count for 10 percent.
