When it comes to admission into the top engineering colleges in the country – the Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs), the most common method of cracking the entrance exam is JEE Advanced. Every year, the top 2.5 lakh rank holders of JEE Main are eligible to apply for JEE Advanced. Not many people know that the IITs also offer admission through an alternative route.
While design courses are available through CEED, there are many engineering courses that candidates can access without having to sit for JEE Advanced or IIT admission. Here is a list of such courses:
BSc Data Science from IIT Madras
The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Madras offers BSc in programming and data science to 11th, 12th grade students, university students, working professionals and those taking a career break. Students who have completed Class 11 by May 2022 or are currently in Class 12 can apply for the qualification process. If they qualify the process, they can start the courses after completing their class 12.
In addition, students who qualify for the JEE Advanced 2021 can participate directly in the course. There is no limit on the number of seats and therefore anyone who qualifies can participate in the program. The last application date is April 20.
IIT Guwahati Master in Liberal Arts
The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Guwahati will offer a master’s degree in liberal arts from academic year 2022-2023. The first batch has 30 students. As part of the course, students will learn concepts such as geospatial analysis, digital humanities, international relations and diplomacy, study of local literature and languages, area studies, etc.
Students who qualify for International Olympiads can gain direct entry into IITs without cracking the JEE Advanced. According to reports, IITs are considering granting admission to students who have competed in internationally renowned Olympiads, based on their performance in the competition. Meanwhile, in 2018, IIT-Bombay had authorized candidates eligible for the International Mathematics Olympiad to directly apply for the BSc Mathematics course.
