A 21-year-old woman is believed to have committed suicide by hanging herself on Friday in a room at a private school hostel in the city of Durg in Chhattisgarh, police said. The victim, Yamini Rajput, was a resident of Narayan Para and a pharmacy student at a private school in the city, Pulgaon station house officer (SHO) Pradeep Sori said. The death came to light in the morning when the hostel director found the woman with a scarf around her neck in an empty room in the property, he said.
Police were then alerted and the body sent for autopsy, the official said, adding that no suicide note was found. A case under relevant provisions of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) has been registered and further investigation is underway, Sori added.
