Punjab School Education Board (PSEB) has announced that it will charge Rs 800 from all students who wish to receive the hard copy of Class 10 and 12 results. The Democratic Teachers Front (DTF) opposes the decision, accusing PSEB of profiting from exams.

Earlier, the board collected an amount of Rs 1,100 from each Class 10 and Class 12 student as examination fees. According to a report by The Tribune, the board has raised a total of Rs 94.56 crore as an examination fee. However, due to COVID-19, the board exams have been suspended. The association then also raised the issue and called on the board to raise money that was never used. However, the board denied the allegations, saying they are not making a profit. They made all the preparations, including printing the questions, but the exam was suspended due to the pandemic.

Speaking to the news portal, DTF President Vikram Yadav said: “We have objected to this matter. A majority of the students belong to the disadvantaged groups. The move clearly shows that the government is making education treacherously unaffordable for them.”

PSEB Chairman, Dr Yograj has informed that the soft copy of the result will be available to the students for free through the DigiLocker app and there is no obligation for the students to opt for the paper version. This is because the board only charges those who want to get the hard copy of the result. According to the news portal, the board also plans to charge only Rs 100 for a printed version of the result from the next session, if anyone wants it, along with the examination fee.
