The Tamil Nadu government has announced that the admission process for the Academy Year 2025–26 will be held under the Right to Education (RTE) ACT from October 6 to October 17 this year. This announcement follows the release of essential funds by the government of the Union, which put an end to the uncertainty that had previously delayed the start of the admission process.
The decision was made after the release of funds under the Samagra Shiksha scheme, after the Tamil Nadu government refused three languages £2,151 Crore.
The scheme also includes reimbursement for RTE recordings for the 2024–25 academic year at private schools. About 6,000 private schools are expected to upload details of the seats filled in in their entry classes, after which 25% of those seats will be reserved under the RTE quota.
The Tamil Nadu School Education Department said: “The government of Tamil Nadu announces the start of the recordings under the law of children to Free and Compulsory Education Act, 2009 (RTE Act) (RTE ACT) for the Academic Year 2025-26.”
“This follows the release of the share of the State of RTE allowance funds by the Indian government … A special 10-day online access window is planned to regularize eligible children who have already been admitted under the RTE quota,” it added.
According to B Chandra Mohan, secretary of school education, “the government of India has now released the funds, making the start of the RTE allowance for 2025-26 in TN.”
Children who belong to specific vulnerable groups are given priority for admission. These groups include orphans, children who are affected or infected by HIV, transgender children, children of scoops and children with disabilities. In cases where the number of applications exceeds the available quota, a fair and transparent random selection process is carried out to determine recordings.
