Samagra, a governance consultancy, recently launched an open source Gov-Tech mentoring program for engineering students called ‘Code for GovTech’ (C4GT). This summer coding program starts in May and ends in August. Those who have been treated can apply through the official Samagra website. Those shortlisted as contributors will also receive a stipend and employment with prominent GovTech companies, the company reports.
Under the program, students will be able to learn and interact with GovTech practitioners, inside and outside government, the company reports. “They will also receive hands-on 1:1 mentoring from ecosystem pioneers; for example: EkStep, Tekdi, NavaDhiti, etc. This is an opportunity for students to contribute to the actively evolving digital public goods that has millions of impacts and a chance to start a high-impact career with prominent GovTech companies. ” C4GT will run on the Open Source platform GitHub.
According to the company press release, “This experiential summer coding program will run from mid-May to August. Engineering students from all over India can apply for the program for an opportunity to work on governance issues with mentorship from pioneers of Indian GovTech. The program is being hosted by Samagra and supported by Omidyar Network India.”

The program mentors include names like Ashwin Date, CTO Co-founder of Tekdi Technologies, Bachi Allamsetty, Co-founder of NavaDhiti, Chakshu Gautam, SamagraX, among others.
Digital public goods are open source – software, data, AI models, standards and content. These goods comply with privacy, other applicable laws and best practices that are designed to be harmless and help achieve the sustainable development goals.
