The acute shortage of teaching staff in government-run schools has led to a “crisis-like” situation in the Ramban district of Jammu and Kashmir, a senior government official said Monday. District Development Commissioner, Ramban, Mussarat Islam flagged the issue of the growing gap between sanctioned force and in-position teaching staff in a communication to Division Commissioner, Jammu, Ramesh Kumar.
He requested immediate action to get the school education department back on track. “The numbers are disturbing,” Islam said, citing a statement from Chief Education Officer, Ramban, about the discrepancy between the sanctioned force and job openings for principals, principals and other teaching staff at all levels in government schools in the district. He said the acute shortage has created a crisis situation in the district with widespread protests from Panchayati Raj institutions, parents and the general public almost every day asking for all the vacant posts to be filled.
Since the case was last taken up with the School Education Department to fill vacant posts, there has been a steady procession of teaching staff, especially teachers and masters, to the other districts without any replacement, leaving the majority of schools without adequate teaching staff. staff, the district commissioner said in his letter. He said that 168 teacher posts (15 mandated for transfer) of the 269 are currently vacant, while a large number of senior secondary schools still have no teachers at all.
With 256 master posts against 437 and 43 of the 59 headmaster posts also vacant, Ramban district is literally on the fringe in the school education sector, Islam said. “If this growing gap between sanctioned strengths and in-position teaching staff in the district is not addressed immediately, there is every chance of a flare-up of public resentment and possible law-and-order situation,” he added. the divisional commissioner requested that the matter be tackled at an appropriate level and that vacancies be filled without delay.
