A resident of Pune in Maharashtra, now an IAS officer Ramesh Gholap, has had a difficult childhood, but despite all the struggles, Gholap eventually proved his metal. His story has inspired many and has given courage to many who are preparing for government service or any other competitive exam.
During his formative childhood, Ramesh was diagnosed with polio in his left leg. Unfortunately, Ramesh’s father, who used to sell bracelets on the street with his wife, could not afford to buy medicine for him. A few years later, Ramesh lost his father and after that, Ramesh’s entire family became the responsibility of his mother.
His mother started selling bracelets on the street to make ends meet. Despite having polio in his left leg, Ramesh sold bracelets with his mother and brother.
Despite all the odds, Ramesh continued to focus on his studies. He completed his early education from his village near Pune. After this, he went to his uncle’s village Barsi to complete his further studies.
Ramesh had achieved 88.5 percentage points in class 12th. After this he graduated to become a teacher to share the responsibility of the house and started teaching as a teacher at a school in the village itself. In addition to teaching, Ramesh completed his Ba (BA) degree. After becoming a teacher, Ramesh was able to support his family financially, but he had other plans for himself. In addition to teaching, Ramesh did his Ba (Bachelor’s degree.
Possibly, Ramesh, moved to Pune and started preparing for UPSC without resorting to any coaching. For this, he also left the job for half a year and began to prepare for the exam with full force. In the year 2010, he made the first attempt of UPSC in which he could not succeed. After this, his mother borrowed some money from the villagers and sent Ramesh to study where he could study civil service. Finally, in the year 2012, Ramesh’s hard work paid off. Ramesh passed the UPSC exam and obtained the 287th rank and became an IAS officer under the disabled quota.
