The video of students from a renowned university kissing in front of other students in a private home has gone viral on social media, stirring a wasp’s nest in the town of Mangaluru in the coastal Dakshina Kannada region of Karnataka.
Mangaluru Police Commissioner N. Shashikumar said on Thursday that the incident had taken place in a flat in Mangaluru six months ago. The students played a truth and dare game during the lip-lock competition.
One of the boys present had put the video on WhatsApp a week ago. It came to the notice of the school board and authorities warned the students and suspended them, he said.
The boy who made the video has been arrested for questioning. No complaint has been lodged by the school authorities or the parents in relation to the incident, Shashikumar said.

The students are seen in uniform and while a young couple is kissing, others are seen in casual fashion, a girl lying on her college friend’s lap. One of the boys is heard calling the next couple to kiss. Sources say students belonged to a reputed university and the video had shocked the traditional coastal district and has also raised concerns among the state’s troubling parents.
Police are also investigating whether the students used drugs while holding the lip-lock contest.
