Students lock up school teachers for not receiving money handed out during Covid in lieu of midday meal

A group of students reportedly locked all teachers, including the principal, in a room of a government school in the Durjanpur area here, claiming that they had not received the money distributed in lieu of a midday meal during the Covid-19 crisis. pandemic, when schools were closed for an extended period.

The students later released all the teachers, Bairia’s Block Education Officer Pankaj Mishra said on Saturday, adding that he was investigating the matter and necessary action will be taken in case of any discrepancies.

A video of the incident went viral on social media.

The head of the school, Jaiprakash Yadav, told PTI that the incident happened on Friday. Yadav said he was locked in a room by the students and was released after assuring them of action.

A video of the incident at Durjanpur school surfaced on social media on Friday, supposedly showing all the teachers, including the headmaster, locked by the students in a room of the school, Mishra said.

In the video, Dheeraj, a class 8 student, can be heard saying that no student has received the money in lieu of a midday meal during the Covid period. The matter was reported to the principal on several occasions, but no action was taken, the student claimed in the video.

In the video, Rector Yadav was also told that all the teachers have been locked up because the money was not deposited into their parents’ bank accounts. Revati police station SHO Harendra Singh said he has not received any information from the school about the incident.
