The Kolkata presidential university said on Saturday that the decision on admission to undergraduate and postgraduate courses will be made in the interests of the students. The varsity statement came after a meeting between the student union and the authority after about 40 students started a sit-in on campus.
The students demanded that the university not participate in the central admission process to be conducted for the state-run varsities for undergraduate and postgraduate courses.
“The authority has assured us that the autonomy of our university in admission matters will be preserved. All decisions regarding admission to RUG and PG programs are taken by the university without any outside intervention,” said a spokesperson for the student union.
A university official said students’ opinions will be taken into account before a final decision is made on the admission process.
