Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy has asked a powerful ‘Working Group on Future Technology Skills’ to make recommendations on the integration of technology such as augmented reality and virtual reality in higher education curricula.
He called on the working group, made up of representatives from global technology majors such as Google, Microsoft and others, including Nasscom, to introduce artificial intelligence (AI) and related topics into curricula and changing teaching methods.
“As part of the higher education reforms, we must work to include augmented reality, virtual reality and related subjects in the curriculum and introduce necessary verticals such as AI in every course in majority schools and colleges to turn our students into experts of various emerging technologies,” Reddy said in a state government press release on Thursday.
He said teaching methods, exam patterns and evaluation systems at the school and college level need to be reviewed.
The prime minister said the main challenge is to take current school education reforms to the next level and integrate them with higher education.
He further noted that in the era of International Baccalaureate (IB), government school students cannot compete at a global level unless necessary changes are made.
The southern state will set a benchmark for the entire country after changes are made to its curriculum and teaching method, Reddy said, calling on task force members to be aware of the ongoing digitization in government schools as part of their recommendations.
The Prime Minister asked the working group members to be ready with an action plan that will be taken up in the next meeting.
