IAS Govind Jaiswal, the son of an Auto Rickshaws driver, has been an inspiration to many as he has put a lot of effort into getting to where he is today. Govind Jaiswal, a resident of Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh, is currently seconded as a director in the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare. Here is his inspiring story.
Mother suffered from brain haemorrhage
Govind’s father and sisters contributed a lot to get Govind to this point in his life. His father Narayan Jaiswal also made many sacrifices to complete Govind’s studies.
In the year 2005, IAS Govind Jaiswal’s mother Indu died of a brain haemorrhage. After which Govind’s father, who had a rickshaw company with 35 rickshaws, had to sell his company to treat his wife. In the treatment of his wife, most of his rickshaws were sold and the family became financially unstable. At that time, Govind was in the 7th standard.
At that time, Govind’s entire family lived in a cell in Alipura, Kashi. At that time, Govind, his three sisters, and his father often ended up eating only dry roti. However, Govind’s father left no stone unturned to give his children a good education. After his daughters graduated from college, Govind’s father also sold his remaining rickshaws for the wedding of his three graduate daughters.

Used to teach to save money
Govind received his early education at a government school in Osmanpura. Then he graduated in Mathematics from Harishchandra University in Varanasi itself. In the year 2006, Govind comes to Delhi to prepare for the UPSC exam. To earn some money, Govind started riding a rickshaw with his father.
After moving to Delhi, Govind started taking classes. Even then he couldn’t save enough. so, to save money, he put one-time tiffin and tea. Finally, after all the struggles, in the year 2007 he took 48th place in his very first attempt.
