The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Guwahati inaugurated today, May 20, the three-day North East Research Conclave of NERC 2022, attended by Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan and Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma. It is held to create a common interface for cooperation and present the best research and development activities through the exhibition of all educational institutions, research institutions and industries in the states of Northeast India.
Speaking at the inaugural address, Dharmendra Pradhan, the Honorable Education Minister of the Indian Government, said: “I congratulate IIT Guwahati and the Government of Assam for organizing the North East Research Conclave. There is a need for greater synergy between industry, academia and policymakers to solve the country’s problem and meet the needs of the poorest. The NERC provides a platform for all layers of stakeholders to come together and collaborate. This conclave will help create a strong ecosystem of research and innovation and move it to a scalable stage.”
About 5,000 eminent personalities from northeast and other parts of India from various sectors such as industry, academia, start-ups, research councils, PSUs, labs and technical institutes including schools and colleges attend the event, the institute said. . †

The conclave further aims to create an environment conducive to the development of local indigenous technologies and innovations, to create the space and foundation for the promotion of translational research and entrepreneurship, and to help the country achieve its goals. of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
The inauguration of the conclave was followed by the signing of an MoU between IIT Guwahati and the government of Assam to establish ‘The Assam Advanced Health Innovation Institute (AAHII). It aims to establish a research institution to use advanced technologies to transform medical science. The joint venture company will invite participation from intended parties, including corporations, business houses and research institutions and philanthropic organizations.
The scope of this collaboration includes the establishment of a research institute and a postgraduate medical university offering advanced medical degrees such as DNB, MD, PhD, MS and MD-PhD, 350-bed ‘Connected’ Multi-Specialty Hospital spread over 50000 square meters in existing IIT, Guwahati campus with an expenditure of Rs. $546 million.
