Mona secured a position in the Indian Revenue Services on the second attempt. She then started her service in the Customs and Excise Department.
There are many students who aspire to become IAS officers, but only a few are able to achieve it. Mona Pruthi, an English teacher, is one of the few who has cleared the UPSC exam. Born on January 1, 1978 in Faridabad, Haryana, she is the youngest of three sisters.
Her father NL Pruthi, who was a judge in the state, wanted to see her daughter as an IAS officer. She became an IAS on her third attempt, but her father did not live to see it. Meanwhile, her mother stood by her through thick and thin.
Her two elder sisters are now happily married and working as teachers in Delhi and Gurugram. Mona Pruthi started her career as an English teacher at Maharaja Agrasen College, University of Delhi. She started preparing for UPSC when she was in college.
Although she did not succeed on her first attempt, she was offered a position in the Indian Revenue Services the following year. She then started her service in the Customs and Excise Department. Mona’s determination remained unwavering and in the 2005 Civil Services Examination, she achieved remarkable success by securing the top position and achieving the All India Rank 1. Mona Pruthi had English Literature and Sociology as optional subjects for the Civil Services Examination.
Mona Pruthi attended Apeejay Public School in Faridabad. She subsequently did a BA Honors in English Literature from Lady Shri Ram College for Women, Delhi and completed her MA in English from Hans Raj College, Delhi. She subsequently obtained an M.Phil in English Literature from the University of Delhi.
Mona Pruthi’s husband is A Sreenivas, an IAS officer of 2004 batch. He is currently serving in the Haryana Cadre. Previously, he was posted in the Rajasthan Cadre. He currently holds the position of CEO at Faridabad Metropolitan Development Authority. He has also worked as the Managing Director of the Haryana Dairy Development Cooperative Federation.
