After the teachers of a dozen colleges affiliated with the University of Delhi (DU) agitated over the non-payment of their salaries, the state government has finally paid their salaries, but with no arrears.
The medical and LTC bills of these teachers and the pensions of retired teachers of these 12 DU colleges have not been paid as yet.
A group of DU teachers has blamed the Delhi government for failing to pay arrears and allowances. At the same time, another group of teachers has also asked the Delhi government to immediately release more scholarships, adding that attempts have been made to recruit people with a particular political ideology by putting pressure on these colleges that the government of Delhi were funded.
Ajay Kumar, chairman of the Delhi University Teachers’ Association (DUTA), told IANS that the teachers in Deen Dayal Upadhyaya College, Lakshmibai College and Shyam Lal College are being unnecessarily harassed by the board chairman of the Delhi government.
At the same time, pressure has been put on the directors of these 12 DU colleges to pay salaries to the teachers from the money generated through the student welfare fund. The Association of Principals has repeatedly written to Delhi University Vice Chancellor Yogesh Singh about unnecessary interference by the Delhi government, Kumar said.
The Delhi government is walking away from its responsibility by not paying the salary of the teachers of these 12 DU colleges. Now the DUTA has demanded the vice-chancellor of Delhi University to sack the governing body of the Delhi government, the DUTA president added.
Hansraj Suman, chairman of the Delhi Teachers’ Association (DTA), the teachers’ organization of the Aam Aadmi party, says attempts are being made to put undue pressure on the Delhi government and repeated deliberate protests are being held in the residence of the Chief Minister.
He said appointments should be made to the posts of director in more than 20 colleges administered by the government of Delhi, where individuals who support the political ideology of DUTA and the central government want to appoint teachers who share the same political ideology as them. follow.
Suman said that in Vivekananda College, Bharati College and other DU colleges, teachers who followed the political ideology of the central government did not become principals, so the central government deemed these posts “unsuitable” even though the governing body of the government is of Delhi functional in these colleges .
As many as 28 DU colleges are funded by the Delhi government. Of these, 12 are fully funded colleges, which receive 100 percent grant from the government of Delhi. In addition, 16 colleges are partially funded by the state government. In all these 28 colleges, the chairman of the governing body of the Delhi government leads them.
According to the DTA president, despite the chairman of the governing body, the Delhi government is unable to appoint the director in the 12 colleges they run because the director’s selection committee has been infiltrated by people with a certain political ideology thus these Delhi government run colleges are unable to appoint principals.
The DTA has also demanded from Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia to immediately release the grants of 12 fully funded colleges affiliated to the Delhi government.
DTA says that due to the failure to release scholarships, teachers from many colleges have not received a PhD backlog in the past two months. In addition, permanent and ad hoc teachers and staff in these colleges are facing a serious financial crisis due to non-payment of salaries.
The DTA also said that the grant has now been released by the Delhi government, due to which the salary has now been paid to the teachers. In addition, the DTA president also admitted that the full grant has not yet been released.
The DTA has said several months have passed since the teachers were promoted, but to date they have not received any arrears. Likewise, the teachers’ medical bills have not been settled either. The teachers have informed the DTA that the LTC bills and pensions of retired teachers have not been paid.
The DUTA says the crisis related to the release of scholarships and salaries is deepening in the 12 colleges funded by the Delhi government. Teachers and staff are facing difficulties due to inadequate and irregular scholarships released by the government of Delhi. The Delhi government constantly and inhumanely ignores and treats the colleges it finances.
The DUTA president said the salaries of teachers and other college staff that are cent percent funded by the Delhi government, delinquent pay commissions, deferred promotions and medical bills are still pending. In many colleges, even the salary of the last two to three months has not been paid.
DUTA Secretary Surendra Singh informed that the career of these teachers is on hold due to not approving posts of ad hoc teachers working in these 12 colleges. The Delhi government has made the Delhi College of Arts & Commerce obsolete. This college has been merged with the Department of Fine Arts of Ambedkar University, which has further exacerbated the problems.
