MSDE has decided to create skill hubs in colleges and universities of national importance to widen the delivery network and offer skill building courses beyond conventional skill building institutions.
The University Grants Commission (UGC) has encouraged universities and colleges under the Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana (PMKVY 4.0) to set up ‘skill hubs’. The Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (MSDE) has decided to create skill hubs in varsities and colleges of national importance to widen the delivery network and offer skill building courses beyond conventional skill building institutions, according to a report from Careers360.
“As part of expanding its delivery network and offering skill programs beyond traditional skilling institutions, MSDE has decided to dedicate/establish ‘Skill Hubs’ at identified higher education institutions of national repute under Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana 4.0 (PMKVY 4.0),” reads the official release. With the Skill India platform – admin.skillindiadigital.gov.in/Skillhub, the HIE administrations can manage the activities of the program digitally. The platform also allows the HIEs to apply for courses or jobs based on their qualifications.
The committee said that this is a special effort by the Government of India and the involvement of higher education institutions would be beneficial in developing a skills ecosystem.
With PMKVY 4.0, the government-funded skilling programme, many flagship initiatives have been developed to better suit the changing demands of the market and economy. These improvements include on-the-job training, expanding the network of skills institutions for integration with education, offering skills training to all, and offering training in advanced courses relevant to relevant industries. Since 2015, the MSDE has used PMKVY to provide short-term skills training to develop a workforce prepared for a variety of industries and occupations.
