The National Testing Agency (NTA) has commenced the registration process for the University Grants Commission (UGC) National Eligibility Test (NET) for the December 2021 and June 2022 merged cycles. Interested parties can submit the application form online at UGC’s official website at ugcnet.nta.nic.in, nta.ac.in. The application deadline is May 20.
However, NTA has not yet announced the exact date of the exams and it is likely that the dates will be announced shortly. However, the NTA chairman has previously tweeted that the exam is likely to be held in June 2022. Normally the UGC-NET exam is held twice a year, but this time the Covid disrupted the exam schedule and the UGC decided to combine the two test cycles and keep them together.
“JRF’s slots from both UGC-NET’s December 2021 and June 2022 cycles have been merged, while JRF’s subject-wise and category-wise allocation methodology remains unchanged,” NTA said in an official statement.
Last year, after the UGC announced that the NET would be combined, a large proportion of candidates claimed that if there had been two separate sessions, the rules would have qualified six percent of candidates for each of the exams. Since students lost one chance due to a pandemic and a combined exam was held, the qualification rate should be increased to 12 percent.
