A Public Interest Litigation (PIL) has been filed with the Supreme Court for instructions regarding the continued education of students who have returned to Ukraine for medical training. The plea has sought their admission to medical colleges in India.
The petitioners have stressed that there are no prospects for them to go back and complete their education in Ukraine in the near future. That is why they sought help from the government, Live Law reports. “Even private institutions such as the Maharashtra-based MIT Group of Institutions have pushed forward to provide seats for Indian medical students returning from the war-torn country of Ukraine,” the petition states.

The petition, filed by attorneys Rana Sandeep Busa and Dr. Neetu Naidu, argues that the government should investigate the matter and make way for admission of these students to the Indian medical colleges. The petition also requested relief for providing an orientation program equivalent to the medical subjects to prepare them for the Indian curriculum.
“It should be borne in mind that the National Medical Commission has allowed foreign medical graduates to complete their internship in India due to the ongoing war between Ukraine and Russia, so against this background, the government must consider the plight of the medical students who were forced to flee for their lives and in between left their medical training and returned to India because of the ongoing war,” the petition reads.

“The abrupt stop in their education affects the fundamental rights of nearly 20,000 Indian medical students, in particular the right to life and the right to equality. When the students return to India, their prospects are bleak and bleak. In this dire situation, it is the duty of the central government and the state government to come forward and lend a helping hand to the students and their families,” the plea added.
