Russia offers India oil at a huge discount
Russia is offering India its crude oil at a huge discount. It offers $35 a barrel to India because of the war between Ukraine and Russia. India imports 80 percent of its crude oil needs. In 2021, the country bought 12 million barrels of oil from Russia, which is only 2 percent of its total needs. This comes amid the rise in oil prices in the country. Buying oil at a lower price would keep domestic oil prices in check and inflation in check.
Punjab seeks immediate transfer of Chandigarh
The Punjab State Assembly has unanimously passed a resolution to immediately transfer the Union Territory of Chandigarh to the state. Currently, it is the joint capital of Punjab and Haryana. Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann moved the resolution in the state assembly. Congress, Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD), AAP, BSP supported the resolution. BJP MLA Ashwani Sharma opposed the resolution and then walked out of the meeting in protest.
Confidence motion against Pakistani Prime Minister
Pakistani opposition lawmakers had previously tabled a no-confidence vote against Prime Minister Imran Khan in parliament. The move was taken to remove Khan’s government amid allegations that the country’s economy has been mismanaged. The Pakistani Supreme Court had formed a special bank to investigate the matter. On Saturday, the no-confidence vote against Prime Minister Khan was rejected by the Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly, Qasim Khan.
IPL
The 15th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) kicked off on March 26 with 12 teams this time. Usually there are 10 teams every year, but this time two teams have been added: Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) and Gujarat Titans (GT). CSK lost the first two games, MI lost their first game, RCB played two games with one win and one loss, while KKR won two of the three games. Furthermore, MS Dhoni became the third oldest batter to register half a century in the IPL.
Australia beat England to win Women’s World Cup
Australia defeated England by 71 runs in the 2022 Women’s World Cup. They have now won seven of the 12 World Cups that have taken place in women’s cricket. Australia’s Alyssa Healy also recorded the highest individual score with 170 runs in the Women’s World Cup final.
