Several Visva-Bharati students squatted on the road near his residence on Tuesday and prevented Vice Chancellor Prof. Bidyut Chakraborty from driving to his office.
The central university’s VC has been locked in its quarters by riotous students for two weeks.
On Tuesday, a student hurried and crouched in front of his car as the VC was about to leave his official residence, located on the Santiniketan campus, for his office in the evening, a university spokesman said.
Several other students camped outside the gates ran to his car and some crouched on the ground, he said.

The guards tried to persuade them to leave and Chakraborty went back to his residence.
As a result, it has been decided that the VC will perform its duties from his home for the time being, according to the spokesperson.
Chakraborty has been confined to his residence since Nov. 24 as about 15 students camp outside the gates in support of their demands, the spokesman said.
SFI Visva-Bharati unit leader Somnath Sow said the students are demanding immediate intervention from the VC in the allocation of hostel rooms for out-of-school students, an issue that has remained unresolved since the pandemic.
They also seek his intervention to facilitate, among other things, the evaluation of thesis papers.
Meanwhile, the student, crouching in front of Chakraborty’s car, claimed she was being harassed by the security personnel. “I was mistreated despite being a woman and a university researcher.”
On November 23, Chakraborty had a heated verbal exchange with the exciting students in his office and had told the reporters present there that he had been mistreated by them but will not succumb to any pressure.
Chakraborty then left for his official residence between 23 and 24 November with the help of security guards.
The students, including PhD students, had accused him of haughty behavior and claimed that he had abused them.
