What exactly are the Grammys right now? A ceremony that honors the best in popular music? Sometimes, but not often. A concert that explores the connections between generations of styles and songs? On a good day maybe. A party hosted by the stars and movers behind the scenes of yesteryear where young stars aren’t quite sure if they want to be invited or hugged? Yes that is it.

In this week’s Popcast, a talk about the utility of the Grammy Awards and the musicians — Silk Sonic, HER, Billie Eilish — who manage to thrive amid the spiritual tug of war of the ceremony.
Guests:
Jon Pareles, DailyExpertNews’ chief pop music critic
Wesley Morris, the DailyExpertNews critic in general
Lindsay Zoladz, who writes about pop music for DailyExpertNews
