An American man living in India recently shared some humorous observations about Indian men. In a video on Instagram, John joked about how they often effortlessly switch into lecture mode, turning a simple conversation into a long 30-minute monologue. He noted that Indian men don’t hesitate to share their opinions and insights even if they are unfamiliar with a topic. He went on to share several instances where he was educated about American culture by Indian men, despite being from the US himself.
“Do you agree? Often when I try to talk to Indian men it turns into a 30 minute lecture,” he wrote while sharing the video.

The video has resonated with some and entertained many, sparking a light-hearted debate on social media. One user wrote: “There are no disagreements. No negotiations. There are one-sided conversations. Now you know how women feel.”
Another commented: “It's an Indian thing. Anyone is entitled to read to the younger person. Even if they don't know the subject or the material. I advise you not to waste a second on such lazy people.”
A third said: “Wow. I totally agree, I would even add that men can't listen to women at all. They either ignore what we say or they get traumatized. I feel blessed to be surrounded by a few Indian men who listen and it's wonderful to be around them.”
A fourth added: “I won't stereotype but yes, to some extent it is true for many Indian men, especially the older generation.” A fifth said: “Very common, especially men. Lack of education and most people are bad listeners. It makes life easier for me though – Saves me the trouble of talking, I just listen and later my girls and I have a good laugh for days.”
Interestingly, John is a digital creator and an American expat living in India. He is married to an Indian and enjoys sharing my experiences and observations about the country through reels and vlogs.
