Melissa is determined to keep tattooing herself.
Tattoos are a super hip fashion statement that can make anyone the center of attention, but for one British woman, they became a constant source of rejection everywhere she went. The woman with 800 tattoos claims it is difficult for her to find a meaningful job as employers criticize her tattooed appearance.
According to The New York Post, Melissa Sloan, 46, who hails from Wales in the UK, previously had a job as a toilet cleaner but says she has been unable to find a similar gig due to the art adorning her face and body.
“I can’t get a job,” Sloan told the Daily Star bluntly. “I applied for a job as a toilet cleaner where I live and they don’t want me because of my tattoos.
“People have said I’ve never had a job in my life, but I’ve had one, and it didn’t last long,” the mother-of-two added. “If someone offered me a job tomorrow, I would go to work; I would take that offer.”
Sloan started getting tattoos at the age of 20 and quickly became addicted.
Despite all these difficulties in finding work, Melissa continues to get up to three new tattoos a week and calls herself ‘addicted’.
“If I get to 70, I’ll still get them,” she stated. “Every piece of skin will be covered, even if I turn blue, my face already turns blue; I look like a smurf.”
Sloan has a particular fondness for facial tattoos and no longer has bare skin on her face. She has applied ink over old tattoos three times, creating a multi-layered collage over her face.
“I have three layers on my face. I probably have the most tattoos in the world, and if not, at the rate I go I will probably eventually have it; I keep putting them on over and over,” she said enthusiastic.
