It also played around with the popular song “Papa Kehte Hain” from the 1987 movie “Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak”. “My father says I will make him proud, so I will write his name on the license plate of my car. But no one knows that such license plates are penalized.#UttarakhandPolice called the vehicle owner after complaint on Twitter, got the license plate changed and issued a challan,” the state police tweet read when it was translated from Hindi.
The photo accompanying the tweet showed that the vehicle’s license plate was ‘4141’, written to resemble the Hindi word ‘Papa’.
The post has received hundreds of likes since it was shared. While some users praised the work of the state police, others wrote about their own problems with such vehicles.
“But how is it that gentleman is roaming the city with this license plate. Proactive action must be taken to prevent this kind of thing in the future,” wrote one user.
Another user simply said, “Nice work.”
Uttarakhand Police continue to spread awareness on social media in funny ways.
Vehicle registration plates in India are governed by the Motor Vehicles Act 1989, which clearly states that registration letters and numbers in black on a white background for two-wheelers and automobiles, and black letters on a yellow background for commercial vehicles.
It also states that fancy letters of other names, pictures and art should not be displayed on the license plates.
