In one of the strangest incidents, South Sudanese police said they apprehended a cow and its owner after the animal killed a 12-year-old boy.
Citing the police statement, the Independent reported that the cow was walking near a farm last week when she attacked the child, killing him instantly. The animal was pulling a plow in Lakes state when the incident happened.
Police spokesman Major Elijah Mabor said: “The bull has now been arrested at a police station in Rumbek Central County. The boy was taken to the hospital for an autopsy and he was taken home for burial.”

This comes less than a month after a ram in the same state killed a 45-year-old woman. In the brutal attack, Adhieu Chaping was repeatedly struck in the ribs by the ram and later succumbed to her injuries. The ram was arrested and taken into custody at a police station in Maleng Agok Payam.
During his speech at the arrest of the ram, Mr Mabor had explained: “The owner is innocent [but] the ram is the one who committed the crime, so he deserves to be arrested.”
The ram was sentenced to hard labor in a military camp where he will be held for three years. Once released, the ram is also expected to be given to Mrs. Chaping’s family – in accordance with the laws and traditions of the country.

The Independent reported that a housekeeper who kills a person is automatically given as compensation to the victim’s family once they have served their sentence. A local court also fined the ram’s owner, Duony Manyang Dhal, of five cows, which must be handed over to the victim’s family.
