Life is full of uncertainties and it is a journey full of ups and downs. Unexpected challenges can arise at any time. But acts of kindness and support from good-hearted people can provide hope, comfort and a sense of belonging to those in difficult circumstances.
Recently, Mohamed Ashik, a digital content creator, came across an elderly woman begging on the street. This woman had previously worked as a teacher in Myanmar (formerly Burma) and had moved to Chennai, India after her marriage. Touched by her situation, Mohamed Ashik intervened to help Merlin, the elderly woman, by easing her transition to an elderly care facility.
Mohamed also shared a video of her interaction with Merlin on his social media page. In the video, Merlin talks about her journey from Myanmar to India and how a series of unfortunate events led to her losing all her loved ones, ultimately leaving her in a situation where she had no choice but to live on the streets.

To help her escape her dire circumstances, Mohammed created an Instagram account for Merlin to teach people English. Remarkably, her Instagram account has already amassed 5.67 lakh followers. In addition, Merlijn has moved to an elderly care facility, which gives her a more stable and comfortable environment.
The power of the internet worked wonders, and one of Merlin’s former students recognized her and reached out via video call to reconnect.
Merlin’s video has been viewed a whopping 30 million times, sparking widespread discussions and comments on social media platforms, where people are sharing their thoughts and feelings about it.
