A group of beachgoers recently rescued a stranded minke whale that washed up on a beach in Australia. According to news week, the Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service arrived at Hervey Bay Beach on May 20 to find the washed up minke whale that was unable to move. After an initial assessment, wildlife officials determined the whale appeared to be in “good condition,” after which beachgoers, along with officials, guided the mammal back to the deep waters.
A video shot by snake catcher Drew Godfrey shows rescuers pouring water on the animal to keep it wet. You can also watch the rescuers lead the whale out to sea with the rising tide.
Watch the video below:
The clip shows that once the whale has been successfully guided into deep water, it suddenly starts flapping its tail and tries to swim into deeper water. Spectators can be heard cheering as the whale gets livelier.

The marine mammal seems to disappear into the depths, but moments later the whale gets stuck again in the shallow water. “Oh no, it’s coming back in,” someone is heard saying in the video. But once the whale runs aground in the shallows and stops floundering in the water, rescuers try to steer it back into the depths.
The rescuers pull the whale out and it starts flapping its tail again to start swimming. Beachgoers can be heard cheering again in the clip as it becomes clear that the whale is finally on its way back to the open ocean.
Speak with news weekDrew Godfrey said the moment was “very moving.” “It was a heartwarming moment of community spirit and animal rescue. It was great to see,” Godfrey added.
