Police in Spain’s Blanca region have arrested a man who became infamous in local restaurants for eating a luxurious dinner and then feigning a heart attack to avoid paying his bill. Loud every day. The photo of the 50-year-old man is circulating as a warning among restaurants in the region. Citing police, the outlet said he had defrauded more than 20 restaurants. He was caught last month when staff at one of a hotel’s restaurants presented a bill for $37.
When the staff member left, the man tried to leave but was stopped and told he still had to pay the bill. The scammer then claimed he went to get the money from his hotel room, but the staff wouldn’t let him leave.
It was at this point that he began to feign a heart attack.
“It was very theatrical. He pretended to faint and fell to the floor,” the restaurant’s manager told a Spanish news channel. “We have sent his photo to all restaurants to prevent him from striking again.”
Spanish news agency EFE reported that the man was wearing long gray trousers, a polo shirt, trekking shoes and a well-known branded vest.
He asked the restaurant staff to call an ambulance, but they refused and instead informed the police. When police arrived, they recognized the man from encounters in other restaurants in Alicante and arrested him. EFE said.
He had lived in the city since November 2022.
