A bride in Hyderabad was overcome with emotion after seeing a lifelike wax figure of her father, who died last year, on her wedding day. The statue was a surprise gift from the bride’s brother, Phani Kumar, who wanted his father Avula Subramanayam to attend the wedding.
A video posted on YouTube by Mr Kumar shows the moment when the bride Sai Vaishnavi and her mother Jayashree Subramanayam saw the wax figure of Mr Subramanyam. Both women were initially surprised, but later burst into tears.
Mrs. Vaishnavi was seen hugging and kissing the statue of her father. Other family members who attended the June 9 wedding venue also embraced it and got emotional, the video further revealed.
The statue became the center of attraction at the wedding. It was a perfect replica of Mr. Subramanayam and was included in almost all features. The whole family also clicked a photo.
Mr Kumar told DailyExpertNews.com that the statue was shot in Karnataka and it took over a year to complete. He further said that both his parents used to work at Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) and were retiring in 2020.
Mr Subramanayam contacted the coronavirus last year (during the second wave), which caused his oxygen level to drop and he was rushed to hospital, Mr Kumar said.
“I spent three days with him in the hospital where I couldn’t meet or talk to him because he was on a ventilator,” Kumar recalls.
The loss was initially too much to bear, but Mr. Kumar and his family showed strength. But he had a wish – to take his father to his sister’s wedding and that resulted in an elaborate plan to design the statue and present it as a surprise gift on the wedding day.
