Meta, owned by Mark Zuckerberg, is scrapping some of its generous employee benefits.
Meta, the parent company of Facebook, is reportedly scrapping some of the lavish benefits enjoyed by its employees. Seven of the company’s employees, who spoke to DailyExpertNews on condition of anonymity, confirmed that Meta was phasing out the free laundry service for its employees and pushing back dinner to 6:30 p.m. from the previous 6 p.m.
The new dinner timing is problematic as the company’s last shuttle departs at 6pm. In addition to the new timing for the free dinner, Meta, owned by Mark Zuckerberg, also announced that employees will no longer be allowed to bring reusable containers to pack food for friends and family.
These are some of the small cuts that employees will face as they prepare to return to work later this month. At Meta, many employees will return to work on March 28 for the first time since the coronavirus pandemic, the life as we knew it two years ago. Other employees will continue to work from home and follow a hybrid model and visit the office less often.
Silicon Valley companies typically offer their employees luxury benefits, but these changes in Meta’s policies could be a sign of changing times. For Meta employees, the reduction in their on-site benefits is a cause for concern.
A verified employee, who posted on the Blind app, regretted the changes to Meta’s policy. “Dinner has been rescheduled to 6:30pm. NO Togo boxes, NO reusable containers to take with you even for lunch and other items,” the employee wrote. “Laundry allowance GONE… Childcare benefits were already reduced for 2022,” she added.
The employee was also concerned about the crash in Meta’s share price – the company has had a rough couple of months in which it saw its market cap plummet by half.
Meta confirmed the changes to its “on campus amenities”. “As we return to the office, we’ve made adjustments to on-site services and amenities to better meet the needs of our hybrid workforce,” Meta spokesperson Tracy Clayton told CNET. “We believe that people and teams will become more and more dispersed in the future, and we are committed to building an experience that helps everyone succeed.”
