A video with Nobel laureate Malala Yousafzai is causing a furore on the internet. It was posted by Mrs. Yousafzai’s friend Vee and shows them both in graduation robes. In the video, Vee talks about the opposing personalities of the two friends, creating a strong bond between them.
“POV: There are two kinds of best friends and graduates in this world. Cattle: giggling and chaotic. Malala: focused and steady,” says the text inserted as supers in the video uploaded a week ago.
As Vee giggles as she poses for the video, Ms. Yousafzai has a calm expression.
The location of the video has been cited as Oxford University, where both Vee and Ms Yousafzai graduated last year.
Vee, a girls’ education advocate, author and empowerment coach, said in the accompanying post, “You haven’t seen your best friend in two months because you both travel the world doing the work you love and so now you look at all your nice memories because FaceTime/texts just don’t work.”
The video has been viewed more than 4.3 million times to date.
Malala Yousafzai graduated in Philosophy, Politics and Economics from Oxford University in November 2021, nine years after she was shot by the Taliban for campaigning for girls’ education in her home country of Pakistan.
She had shared the photos from her graduation ceremony on her official Instagram handle. In the photos, she posed in her hat and gown at college, along with her proud parents and husband Asser Malik.
Ms Yousafzai married Mr Malik, a manager of the Pakistan Cricket Board, in a quiet ceremony in Birmingham on November 9, 2021. In a tweet she then wrote: “We celebrated a small nikkah ceremony at home in Birmingham with our families. “
She won the Nobel Peace Prize in 2014 when she was 17 years old, along with Indian Kailash Satyarthi.
