Rakhi 2023: The mehendi design is going viral on the internet.
Digital payments have become increasingly important in India in recent years as the country has seen a rapid increase in smartphone adoption. These devices facilitate payments by allowing users to scan a QR code without entering details such as bank details, IFSC code, etc. On the occasion of Raksha Bandhan, video of a ‘digital peak moment’ is gaining ground on social media claiming to show a man making payments to his sister by scanning the QR code drawn on her hand as mehendi art.
The short clip shows the woman’s hand with the mehendi art being scanned by a man (her brother) with an iPhone. In the conversation, the man does not seem to believe that such a thing is possible. But when the phone’s screen reaches the payment interface, the man is amazed and even screams in surprise. Surprised? Watch the video yourself.

At first, users were amazed to see the talent of the mehendi artist who drew the QR code-like design on the woman’s hand. But a closer look revealed a few things. In the clip, the person using the mobile device is not scanning an actual QR code; instead, a video plays on the woman’s brother’s mobile phone, where the code is already visible.
The same emotion was reflected in the comments of other X users.
“For a second I felt like an artist, but then I realized it was a video,” said one user.
“Relax guys with this video edit,” another user wrote.
“People say wow! Great! But can’t you even see the video in the gallery? Take a good look at your eyes,” said a third user.
The video was shared on Instagram by a mehendi artist named Yash. The video caption states that the QR code is non-functional and was created purely for entertainment purposes.
“It’s just some content I edited. This is a screenshot of a payment transaction with my mehndi video to make it real. The Mehndi QR code cannot be used for payment,” the post clarified.
