Season 2 of Shark Tank India started today. The show, which debuted a year ago, has been a hit with audiences and fans have been eagerly awaiting the next edition.
Shark Tank is a reality show in which startups seek investment from established business people. The show is the Indian version of the Shark Tank show from the US, which is currently on its 14th season.
This time, however, some of the judges who were part of Season 1 will not appear. BharatPe founder Ashneer Grover and Mamaearth co-founder Ghazal Alagh are not part of Season 2.
Here are the six judges who will be part of Season 2 of Shark Tank India:
Peyush Bansal
The CEO of Lenskart, who was one of the fan favorites in Season 1, will return as Shark on the show. The 37-year-old worked at Microsoft in the US before entering the eyewear business.
Founded in 2010, Lenskart is today valued at nearly $5 billion. (Rs 41,000 crore)
Vinita Singh
Vineeta Singh, an Indian Institute of Management (IIM) alumnus, came into limelight when she turned down a Rs 1 crore a year job immediately after passing out. She is the founder and CEO of Sugar Cosmetics, a brand that aims to revolutionize the skincare and makeup industry in India.
During Season 1 of Shark Tank India, the 38-year-old often spoke about the issues faced by female startup founders. Ms Singh said it is often more difficult for women to raise money for their startups.
She is also an active runner and has competed in several marathons and ironman triathlon events.
Aman Gupta
Aman Gupta founded the electronics brand ‘boAt’ with the aim of making gadgets cool. The company started with colorful earphones and headphones at a time when most other companies made black, white or gray.
boAt has grown 100% year-on-year and posted a turnover of Rs 3,000 crore at the end of FY22.
Namita Tapar
Namita Thapar became a chartered accountant at the age of 21. She then continued her MBA and spent six years in the financial industry. After her successful stint in the US, Ms. Thapar returned and joined her father at the helm of pharma giant Emcure Pharmaceuticals.
When Ms Thapar joined Emcure, the company had a valuation of Rs 500 crore. Today it is one of the largest pharmaceutical companies in the country and has a valuation of Rs 6,000 crore.
Namita Thapar is a huge fan of Amitabh Bachchan and has named her sons Jai and Veeru, inspired by the characters in the actor’s hit movie ‘Sholay’.
Anupam Mittal
Anupam Mittal is a seasoned entrepreneur and investor who is known for founding the matrimonial site Shaadi.com. He was one of the early investors in several startups that have become household names today. These include BigBasket, Ola, Rapido and many more.
He claims to have invested in over 150 companies in the past 15 years.
Amit Jain
Amit Jain, who is making his debut on Shark Tank India, is currently the CEO of CarDekho.com. He and his brother came up with the idea after a visit to Auto Expo in 2008. In a LinkedIn post, Mr. Jain said: “We set up a portal where people could find the right information and rate cars before making a purchasing decision. “
