Meanwhile, Rishi Sunak delivered his inaugural address as Prime Minister in Downing Street today. In his speech, Mr. Sunak stated that he had been appointed to replace Liz Truss to “correct” her mistakes.
The former chancellor praised his predecessor’s “restlessness” and her “noble aim” to boost UK economic growth as he spoke outside number 10.
“I want to pay tribute to my predecessor Liz Truss. It was not wrong to want to improve growth in this country. It is a noble goal. And I admired her restlessness to bring about change,” he said.
“But some mistakes have been made – not born of ill will or ill intent. Quite the contrary. Mistakes nonetheless. And I was elected leader of my party and your prime minister, in part to rectify them.”
Mr. Sunak promised to keep the promises made in the manifesto and to bring the nation together not only through words but also through deeds.
