The unidentified fish weighed 4 kg and were caught 540 meters deep.
An unknown creature called the “ugliest” has been trapped in deep waters off the coast of southeastern Australia.
Professional fisherman Jason Moyce, nicknamed Trapman Bermagui on social media, hauled in the mysterious monster off the coast of Bermagui’s hometown. He shared a photo of the fish on Facebook and asked internet users to help him identify the fish, as both he and the charter boat captain had no idea what the fish might be.

In the caption, Mr Moyce wrote: “I’m pretty sure this is a blobfish ??? caught in deep water, east of Bermagui. Probably the ugliest fish I’ve ever seen. Apparently good to eat.”

The fish appears a mottled pinkish-grey. His eyes bulge out on the sides of his head and his huge mouth, which takes up most of his face, contains rows of sharp teeth. The monster beast can be seen with the baitfish still in its mouth.
Speak with news weektold Mr Moyce the fish weighed 4kg and was caught 540m deep.
Since it was shared, the image of the unidentified fish has left internet users stunned. In the comment section, some agreed with Mr Moyce that the fish could be a blobfish, while others put forward other ideas, including monkfish or mushroom. Some users even joked that the fish is “definitely the stuff of nightmares”.
One user wrote, “I think it’s a monkfish? There are different kinds, but they’re all uuuuugly and pretty creepy.” Another said, “It’s a monkfish! Apparently a poor lobster!” A third hilarious user wrote, “Please put him back in his spaceship,” while the fourth said, “A face only a mother could love.”

Meanwhile, according to James Maclaine, senior fish curator at London’s Natural History Museum, it’s “definitely not blobfish.” Mr Maclaine told the outlet, “That looks a lot like a monkfish – also known as a monkfish – from the family Lophiidae.” He also explained that the fish has the lure it uses to catch its prey just between the eyes.
