Airbnb said employees can freely decide their work environment

New Delhi:

Airbnb has announced that it will let its employees work anywhere — in the office, at home, or any part of the country — depending on their preference. The San Francisco-based company said its employees are free to make decisions about their work environment and their decision will not affect their pay.

From September, the company will even let employees work from another country. They can live and work in more than 170 countries in any location for up to 90 days a year. “Everyone will still need a permanent address for tax and payroll purposes,” CEO Brian Chesky added in an email to employees on Thursday.

The CEO has outlined five key features of the new work-from-anywhere design.

1. Work from home or office

The CEO said the company gives employees flexibility to work in their own way based on where they feel most productive. Most employees will have this flexibility and only a small number of people will need to be in the office or at a specific location to perform their responsibilities.

2.Move anywhere in the country

Employees can move from one place to another – whether it means moving close to your family or moving to a place you’ve always dreamed of. “If you move, your compensation will not change. As of June, we have separate wage levels by country for both salary and equity. If your salary is set with a lower location-based salary level, you will receive a raise in June,” the CEO added.

3.Travel and work around the world

From September, Airbnb employees will be able to live and work in any location in 170 countries for 90 days for a year. While individual employees must arrange work permits themselves, the company said it is “actively working with local governments” to make it easier for more people to travel and work around the world.

However, permanent international moves will not be available this year.

4. Regular team meetings, off-sites and social events

according to misterChesky makes Airbnb prioritize meaningful in-person gatherings year-round. However, as the pandemic is still ongoing, there will be limited off-site events this year. Next year, the number of these events will increase.

5. Work in a highly coordinated manner

To achieve this level of flexibility, employees must coordinate and structure their plans. “Without it, things would become a free-for-all,” added the CEO.
