A video of an Indian bus driver’s bizarre solution to a broken wiper has gone viral on the internet. In the widely circulated video, a Uttar Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (UPSRTC) bus is parked. Spotted in the bus is a water bottle attached to the wiper. The driver has control over the wipe action via the rope attached to the other side. The squeegee works with the hanging water bottle while moving the rope.
A Twitter user, Vipin Rathaur, shared the video on the popular microblogging platform. The caption of the video, which was loosely translated, read: “Wiper works with ‘jugaad’ on Uttar Pradesh Transport Corporation’s bus.”

Jugaad is a colloquial Hindi term used in India that roughly translates as ‘an inventive cure for snags’ or ‘an improvised solution created by cunning and ingenuity’.
The video has gotten a lot of likes and comments since it was posted on Twitter three days ago and has been reposted on other social media sites.
While some viewers were amused by the “jugaad” in the video, others questioned the UPSRTC’s stance on the vehicles’ caliber.
One person commented in Hindi which translates into English as “the buses need a push from behind due to their bad condition.” Another user commented, “Sir, this is the state of Uttar Pradesh,” tagging Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya.
However, in response to the post, UPSRTC Meerut’s Twitter account stated that the wiper was repaired on October 8 and shared a video of an operational wiper.
