This isn’t the first time Disneyland Paris has been criticized online.
A video gaining popularity on social media shows a man’s proposal being interrupted by a Disneyland employee. The footage shows the man getting down on one knee at Disneyland in Paris against the backdrop of one of the park’s iconic castles. As he opens the ring box, an employee runs up the platform the pair is standing on and grabs it away. He then steps off the raised platform and asks the couple to get out, with both the man and woman looking incredibly confused.
The video has been shared online by numerous users and many have criticized the rude and callous behavior of the employee. One user @LarryPotterxxx wrote: “So @DisneyParis_EN does it approve of employees being extremely condescending towards guests? Does the manual say employees are allowed to attack guests and snatch engagement rings from people’s hands halfway through the proposal? Absolutely CRAZY #DisneyProposal #DisneylandParis .”
A Disney spokesperson told news week, “We regret the way this was handled. We apologized to the couple involved and offered to make it right.”
This isn’t the first time Disneyland Paris has been criticized online. In 2021, the theme park had to apologize to a mother after two members of security personnel ordered her not to breastfeed her baby in public.
While Disneyland initially took an unabashed tone by only saying that mothers could use special rooms “with suitable and comfortable equipment such as special chairs for breastfeeding”, it changed its tone after being berated on Twitter by the French minister of citizenship, Marlene Schiappa, who was previously the Minister for Gender Equality.
“Dear @DisneylandParis, Breastfeeding a baby is not an offence. It’s good to have special rooms, but nobody knows when and where a baby will be hungry,” she wrote.
