A video of a black cobra snake drinking water from a glass held by a man has gone viral on social media. The cobra is one of the most venomous snake species in the world and is native to Southeast Asia. The king cobra – the longest of the cobra genus – is common in India.
Monkey and ducklings eat watermelon and here you can watch the king cobra actually drink water from a hand held glass. They also need to be hydrated. But they don’t open their mouths to drink water, there are small nostrils through which they suck water pic.twitter.com/6g2nZUUXke

The video of the venomous snake was posted by one person in response to IFS officer Susanta Nanda’s Twitter post, which showed a monkey and some ducks sharing watermelon. “I love to share,” Mr Nanda said in his tweet.
A user named ncsukumar then responded with a video of a cobra drinking water. He endorses the video as,
“Monkey and ducklings are eating watermelon and here you look at the king cobra actually drinking water from a hand-held glass. They too need to be hydrated there. But they don’t open their mouths to drink water, there’s a small nostril making them suck water.”
The post is old and the user replied to Ms. Nanda in August of last year. But it’s going viral again because it’s summer season and very few people hope to see a thirsty cobra snake.
While it’s natural for any animal to drink water to keep itself cool during extreme heat, this particular video has given internet users shivers.
“Incredible, looks pretty big looking at the tail behind it,” one user wrote in the comment.
“It takes a lot of courage to do this,” said another of the man holding the cup.
With an average length of 3.18 to 4 meters (10.4 to 13.1 ft) and a maximum length of 5.85 meters, the king cobra is the world’s longest venomous snake (19.2 ft). The color of its skin varies depending on habitat, ranging from black with white stripes to a uniform brownish gray.
He usually eats other snakes, including his own kind. It rarely preys on other vertebrates, such as rodents and lizards, unlike other snakes.
