A short film by an 83-year-old woman with her large family conquers hearts on the internet.
The reel shows the octogenarian approaching a stool near a staircase in her home in Kerala. On the stairs are her five sons, their wives and grandchildren. In the background plays the ticking song Roop Suhana Lagta Hai. At the very end of the role, the woman waves her hand and everyone else follows in a gesture that has sparked waves of “likes” and “love” responses.
The reel, shared by Humans of Bombay, has the octogenarian’s simple yet touching journey in the caption.
She describes how she grew up in a simple family and then married into a joint family where everyone took care of her. She then describes how her five children gave her a large family of her own, to love and cherish.
She goes on to tell how her husband’s death after 53 years of marriage left her alone. She then tells how she makes sure that the whole family comes under one roof every now and then, including her children, grandchildren, nieces and nephews. “I love seeing them all come together, talk and laugh!” she says.
“At the age of 83, my proudest achievement is having a fat Indian family.”
She says it was her grandson who came up with the reel idea.
“A few weeks ago when we were all together we even decided to make a little video. My grandson told me to sit on a chair and raise my hand – I agreed! It was a lot of fun!” she says.
“I’m 83 now and looking back on life I feel like I’ve seen it all, like I’ve been through it all! I’m not that active, but I have my friends, my family and a routine. And occasionally I participate in making videos like this. Life is actually pretty simple: just keep doing things that make you laugh,” she says.
The post is for many a reminder to make time for family and to spend precious moments together.
It has garnered much love on the internet for its simple message and the touching journey of an octogenarian.
