A father is hailed as a hero for saving his 18-year-old son from being trampled by a raging bull. Cody Hooks was thrown from the bull’s back shortly after entering the ring at a Texas rodeo. Images first shared online last month but recently going viral show the 18-year-old lying unconscious on the ground after being thrown from the animal. While ringside attendants tried in vain to contain the raging bull, he charged at the unconscious teenager.
Fortunately for Cody, his father was around to save him from a particular injury. Landis Hooks, 40, threw himself over his son’s body, covered his head and pinned him to the ground as the bull charged at them. According to Houston Chronicle, Landis took the brunt of the bull’s wrath. He was hit on the head by the raging animal, but managed to save his son from serious injury.
The chilling footage of the moment was shared online by Cody Hooks, who thanked his father and other bullfighters for saving him from what could have been a very ugly situation.
Social media users praised Landis Hooks for jumping in without thinking twice. “A father willing to lay down his life for his son!” noted one commenter. “Your father is a legend,” said another.
He was named ‘father of the year’ on Twitter.

Speaking of the incident, Landis Hooks said his mind “went blank” before jumping into action. “I just wanted to make sure that sucker didn’t come back and get on top of him like he was about to,” he said, quoted by the Daily Mail.
“That’s just part of the everyday cowboy life where I come from. Someone goes down, you have to help them,” he added. “But I’m still glad I was there.”
