The dog was a one and a half year old shepherd without a microchip.
A dramatic video captured the moment a stray dog walked into the gorilla enclosure at the San Diego Zoo Safari Park in the United States.
According to the San Diego Humane Society, staff and guests were shocked to see a dog in the gorilla enclosure and asked the organization for help. It’s still not clear how this happened, but a video, taken by visitor Desteniey Pickett and made available by Storyful, is going viral on the internet.
Watch the video below:
The footage shows the gorilla chasing the stray dog that managed to enter his enclosure. It also shows the dog running from one side of the fence to the other, while a large gorilla named Frank stomps right behind him. The viral video shows both animals in a cat-and-mouse chase, while onlookers can hear the gorilla’s name screamed in hopes of distracting the monkey.

At the end, a zookeeper is also seen throwing food from above the enclosure. Speaking to Storyful, Mr. Pickett said, “I was afraid that the silverback would grab the dog. I was very anxious the whole time, waiting for workers to arrive.”
In a statement posted on social media, the San Diego Humane Society said the dog had been successfully removed from the enclosure. Nicknamed ‘Mighty Joe Young’, this adventurous dog is now being cared for at our Escondido Campus, and our staff said that although he was not microchipped or collared, he is in full health and extremely friendly, the organization said. †
It also added that no animals, staff or guests at the Safari Park were injured in the incident. The dog was a one and a half year old shepherd without a microchip. A potential owner is being sought.
