Cachar, Assam:
At least two people, including a 12-year-old child, were killed and 7 others injured when a brick kiln chimney collapsed on them in Cachar district of Assam on Friday.
The incident took place in the Kalain area of Katigora Assembly constituency, about 29 km from Silchar town in Cachar district.
Superintendent of police of Cachar district, Numal Mahatta, told ANI that two people, including a 12-year-old child, were killed in the incident.
“Seven others were also injured and were rushed to hospital. An investigation has been launched into the incident,” said the Cachar SP.
Katigora Assembly constituency MLA Khalil Uddin Mazumder said the chimney of the brick kiln collapsed and fell on several people.
“Few people died and many others were injured in the incident. We have referred the injured to a hospital. The local population is also involved in the rescue operation. Firefighters also arrived on the scene and extinguished the flames. I personally spoke to the director of Silchar Medical called College and Hospital, requesting that the injured be given proper treatment,” Mazumder said.
The police have launched an investigation into the incident.
