Banda, Uttar Pradesh:
Six other bodies were recovered from Kishanpur ghat on Saturday in the incident in which a boat capsized in the Yamuna in Uttar Pradesh’s Banda district on August 11.
This brings the total number of bodies found in the tragedy to 9, according to the police.
The incident took place as the boat carrying between 30 and 40 people was en route from Marka to Jarauli Ghat in Fatehpur district to visit relatives on the occasion of Rakshabandhan.
Police said the process of identifying the bodies is underway and the search has begun.
The rescue operation is being carried out by the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) and the Kishanpur Police Force by employing divers.
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has ordered officials to provide financial aid of Rs 4 lakh to the families of each of the victims of the Disaster Relief Fund.
Additional Police Director General Prashant Kumar had said on Friday that personnel from NDRF, SDRF and a team of local divers were involved in the search for 17 missing persons. Rescue operations were halted on Thursday evening as the rain resumed the following morning.
