In the Chandausi area of Sambhal in UP, a total of eight people have died and 11 have been rescued so far after the roof of a cold store for potatoes collapsed in the Chandausi area of Sambhal in UP.
The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) teams conduct rescue operations.
Moradabad DIG Shalabh Mathur told ANI that eight people died in the incident.
“In total, eight people died and eleven people were rescued. More people are missing. There is a basement in the building and we are trying to get to it,” he said.
Sambhal DM Manish Bansal said officials are using sniffer dogs to search for the people trapped in the rubble.
“NDRF is searching for the trapped people using sniffer dogs. We have expanded our force for tomorrow. Other teams from NDRF and SDRF will also come tomorrow,” he said.
Superintendent of Police (SP) Sambhal, Chakresh Mishra said that FIR has been registered against the owner.
“FIR registered against the owner and two others. We have detained four people for questioning. The main defendants are missing and are being searched. We will not be able to tell the real reason for the collapse of this building until the rubble is removed.” he said.
The incident happened around 11:30 a.m. on Thursday, officials said.
It was previously reported that the godown was already in a dilapidated state.
According to the officials, the owners were identified as Ankur Agarwal and Rohit Agarwal.
Moradabad DIG Shalabh Mathur said police booked both owners.
“An FIR has been registered in the case. Two defendants (Ankur Agarwal and Rohit Agarwal) have been booked under section 304. Both defendants are the property owners where the incident took place,” he said.
The DIG further added: “An ADM level investigation has also been carried out in this matter. The part of the cold store that collapsed was built some time ago and was not built to the established standards”.
